kappa Puzhukku / Mashed Tapioca Kerala Style

kappa Puzhukku / Mashed Tapioca Kerala Style is an authentic recipe. Tapioca/ cassava/ Yuca is a starchy substance harvested from the root of the cassava plant. It is essentially pure carbohydrate. It is widely consumed in Kerala, South India. There are many ways of tapioca/kappa (also known as maracheeni/kolli in some part of kerala) preparations in Kerala. kappa Puzhukku/ Mara Cheeni Vevichathu/ Mashed Tapioca with Coconut Ground Paste is a popular recipe from Kerala. Kappa and fish curry, kappa and Beef Curry, kappa and Mulaku Chammanthi (Spicy Chutney) etc are number of favorite lip smacking combinations for a malyalee/keralite including me 😀 . Yeah!  This tempting combinations are very popular in Kerala households, hotels, fast food shops (thattukada), Toddy Shops ( kallu Shaap)  and house boats etc. Long time ago tapioca was a poor man’s main course but now a days it is very demandable and we can see it on the main menu list of south Indian restaurants all over the world. We can buy tapioca at low price in the market and cook in a very tasty and traditional way at our homes. Here is my way of kappa puzhukku preparation with my all time favorite combo “Kappayum Neymeen mulaku Curryum” (mashed tapioca with Spicy King Fish Curry)
